Interview: Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 January’s second Interview of the Month was with Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on 23 January in IRC. The EFF is coming off a series of high-profile successes in their campaigns to educate the public, press, and policy makers regarding online rights in a digital world, and defending those rights in the legislature and the courtroom. Their settlement with Sony/BMG, the amazingly confused MGM v Grokster decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, and the disturbing cases surrounding Diebold have earned the advocacy organization considerable attention. When asked if the EFF would be interested in a live interview in IRC by Wikinews, the answer was a nearly immediate yes, but just a little after Ricardo Lobo. With two such interesting interview candidates agreeing so quickly, it was hard to say no to either so schedules were juggled to have both. By…
Prostrate Problems What You Don’t Know About The The Prostate Gland Could Kill You
Click Here To Know More About: Knee Pain Doctors In Chicago By John Ward Women know more about men’s health than men do themselves and that’s a fact. Why is that? Is it because we find it hard to discuss these things? Is it because it’s not macho! From the time that we are young, we are taught that boys have to act tough and shouldn’t cry. You must have heard the saying “Big Boys don’t cry!” Most of us carry this thought process into adulthood and feel by showing concern for our health, it will be seen as a male weakness. I am guilty of that myself. I know when my prostate troubles began, I knew absolutely nothing about the prostate. I was one of the 96%. Mainly because it didn’t cross my mind that I’d ever have any problems. In addition, the prostate is in a “private” area,…
U.K. National Portrait Gallery threatens U.S. citizen with legal action over Wikimedia images
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation. The English National Portrait Gallery (NPG) in London has threatened on Friday to sue a U.S. citizen, Derrick Coetzee. The legal letter followed claims that he had breached the Gallery’s copyright in several thousand photographs of works of art uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons, a free online media repository. In a letter from their solicitors sent to Coetzee via electronic mail, the NPG asserted that it holds copyright in the photographs under U.K. law, and demanded that Coetzee provide various undertakings and remove all of the images from the site (referred to in the letter as “the Wikipedia website”). Wikimedia Commons is a repository of free-to-use media, run by a community of volunteers from around the world, and is a sister project to…
Astronomer tells Wikinews about discovery of closest black hole known so far
Friday, May 22, 2020 A study published in journal Astronomy & Astrophysics last month reported astronomers from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and elsewhere discovered a black hole in the Telescopium constellation. The study stated the black hole is about 1010 ± 195 light years (310 ± 60 parsec) away from the Solar System, meaning it is the nearest known black hole from the Earth. The nearest previously known black hole — V616 Mon — the study noted was usually estimated at more than 3000 light years away. The black hole described in the study is located in the HR 6819 stellar system of Telescopium constellation, making it the first system visible to the naked eye to contain a black hole. HR 6819 contains two stars, and they are visible from the Southern Hemisphere. The astronomers started observing the system in 1999. Initially, they thought it was just a binary…

US raids Iran ‘liaison office’, Russia says it is unacceptable
Friday, January 12, 2007 The U.S. armed forces detained five Iranians working at a “liaison office” located in Erbil, Iraq before dawn on Friday. Sources said that the U.S. forces first landed their helicopters around the building, then broke through the office’s gate, disarmed the guards, confiscated some documents and certain objects, arrested five suspected terrorists, and then left for an undisclosed location. However, there was no raid on the Iranian Consulate General as earlier reported. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told Agence France-Presse that the building raided was “not a consulate or a government building”, which appears to be confirmed by the Iraqi foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, who said the Iranians were working at an office that had government approval and was in the process of being approved as a consulate, but was not a Consulate nor the Iranian Consulate General. The US is strategically insisting that they raided a…

Exactly How Big Of A Energy Supply Do Music Amps Need?
Click Here To Know More About: Best Country Songs Exactly How Big Of A Energy Supply Do Music Amps Need? by Eldon Wimpy Power amps became a good deal smaller sized these days. Notwithstanding their minimal dimensions, a number of mini sound amps will be able to deliver an astonishing amount of energy. In this article, I\’ll take a peek at precisely why latest music amps are so much smaller compared to traditional stereo amplifiers and also just how much energy compact sound amplifiers including Class-T amps will deliver to a loudspeaker. In the past, stereo amps which deliver average to large energy were usually quite big and heavy. Amplifiers which are employing linear power sources are quite heavy since the metal core of the power source transformer is fairly large to be able to provide sufficient energy.
