Rock music church in Pennsylvania allowed concerts under court settlement
Saturday, March 21, 2009 A Pennsylvania church that claims to worship through rock music may hold a limited number of concerts under a recent federal court settlement. In the face of complaints from neighbors about noise and traffic problems, the Fayette County zoning department found in 2005 that the Church of Universal Love and Music was operating a music business instead of a church and must shut down. William Pritts, founder of the Bullskin Township church, sued in 2006 under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, claiming the ruling infringed on his right to religious freedom. A 12-page court settlement filed in a Pittsburgh federal court allows Pritts to hold six concerts on Friday-through-Sunday weekends, and six additional events on six other Saturdays. However, the music must end by 11:00 p.m. local time on Fridays and Saturdays and 9:00 p.m. on Sundays. “The church is very much looking…

FDA issues proposed rules requiring calorie content on menus
Sunday, April 3, 2011 The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued proposed calorie labeling rules requiring most retail food vendors to display the calorie counts in items on their menus and menu boards. The proposed rules, issued Friday and expected to be finalized in 2012, would apply to most restaurants, snack bars, vending machines, coffee shops, drive-through restaurants, and convenience and grocery stores. The US Congress required the rules in the health-care reform law passed in 2010. The rules proposed by the FDA must undergo a public comment period before they are finalized and take effect, said Michael R. Taylor, Deputy Director for Foods at the FDA. The proposed regulations pertain to businesses devoting more than 50 percent of their floor space to the sale of food or that consider themselves restaurants, specifically food-selling chains with at least 20 stores nationally. Included are candy stores, bakeries, and ice-cream…
Human remains found at World Trade Center
Monday, October 23, 2006 More bones were discovered on Sunday, October 22 in manholes and utility areas on the site of the World Trade Center. The people are believed to have fallen victim to the September 11, 2001 attacks. City and utility officials have already excavated about five underground areas, yielding at least 100 pieces of humanoid remains. Twelve more areas are expected to be excavated. “They will go through every grain, every piece of material carefully, and sift through it,” said Deputy Mayor Ed Skyler, who is overseeing the recovery effort. Skyler said the city will focus on finding remains before it reviews how the initial search was handled. He said construction at ground zero did not need to be halted to accommodate the search, but that officials would address the need if it arises. Mayor Bloomberg has also stated that construction would not be halted. Retrieved from “https://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=Human_remains_found_at_World_Trade_Center&oldid=718824”
