By Ann Marier Young parents are usually beset with so many problems when it comes to rearing and caring for their children. Because of the ever-increasing cost of living in the country, both parents now need to earn a living to keep the family well provided for. Since both parents now have careers outside of the home, there are many parenting issues that these parents need to consider and resolve. Getting a Babysitter One of the biggest parenting issues that beset young parents nowadays is the care of their baby while they go to work. It is a constant struggle for young parents to leave their baby at the babysitters while they go to work. Young mothers are especially very reluctant to leave their babies in a new place. Creationist sentiments affect Imax business strategy
Tuesday, March 22, 2005 Imax cinemas in several southern US states have begun to refuse screening of films that deal with evolution and the big bang, fearing they will drive away customers. This step follows pressure from customers claiming such films are blasphemous to the Christian religion and are counter to biblical teachings which fundamentalists take to be the literal word of God. Some of the affected cinemas are located in science museums often visited by families. Carol Murray, the marketing director of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History in Texas, commented that trial customers complained, “I really hate it when the theory of evolution is presented as fact,” a view reflected by several others. Conversely, a producer of an Imax film entitled Volcanoes of the Deep Sea, James Cameron, said that he was “surprised and somewhat offended” at some of the reactions. Films suppressed by this controversy…
Mysterious dimming of Tabby’s star likely due to space dust, not alien superstructures, say scientists
Saturday, January 6, 2018 On Wednesday, a team of over 200 scientists led by astronomer Tabetha Boyajian announced the mysterious dim-and-recover behavior of stellar object KIC 8462852, also called “Boyajian’s Star” or “Tabby’s Star,” is likely to be due to clouds of color-warping space dust and not a planet, another star or, as some astronomers have hypothesized, a giant structure built by a distant civilization. “If a solid, opaque object like a megastructure was passing in front of the star, it would block out light equally at all colors,” Dr. Boyajian told the press. “This is contrary to what we observe.” And, in a separate statement, “Dust is most likely the reason why the star’s light appears to dim and brighten. The new data shows that different colors of light are being blocked at different intensities. Therefore, whatever is passing between us and the star is not opaque, as would…
Democratic holdout agrees to support health care reform in US
Sunday, December 20, 2009 A conservative Democratic United States senator has agreed to supply the key 60th vote needed for passage of a sweeping health care reform package. Senate Democrats have reached a breakthrough in their struggle to pass sweeping heath care reform legislation, lining up the 60 votes needed to overcome fierce Republican opposition. Senators met Saturday in Washington, D.C. during a driving snowstorm in a frenzied effort to move forward on President Barack Obama’s top domestic priority. The spotlight was on moderate Democratic Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who had been the last holdout as Senate Democrats raced against the clock and against determined Republican opposition to pass their health care bill by their self-imposed deadline of December 25th, Christmas. Change is never easy, but change is what is necessary in America today and and that is why I intend to vote for cloture, I intend to vote…
Ban Ki-moon leads contest for next UN Secretary-General: Poll
Tuesday, October 3, 2006 South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-moon emerged as the likely successor to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan yesterday when an unofficial poll of Security Council members resulted in Ban being the only candidate to avoid a possible veto by one of the five permanent members of the council. A formal ballot to choose the next Secretary-General has been scheduled for October 9. The Security Council’s recommendation will then go to the UN General Assembly for ratification which is usually a formality. Annan’s term ends on December 31, 2006. The 15 members of the council voted “encourage”, “discourage” or “no opinion” beside each candidate’s name on Monday’s straw vote. The ballot was secret, however the five permanent members of the council who have veto rights, the United Kingdom, United States, France, China and Russia, voted on a blue ballot paper in order to demonstrate which candidates, if…
CN Health & Safety Plan planned to be cancelled
Monday, August 29, 2005 On July 18, 2005 CN Rail notified the CAW that they intend to cancel the CN-CAW previously Negotiated Health & Safety Plan. The CAW will be going to arbitration this fall to address the issue. The CAW has asked that employees notify their Health and Safety Rep about any safety concerns at the work place. One terminal has lost 5-6 full-time positions. CN Rail used to have part-time positions filled as well, but at this time there are no part-time employees to cover work if a full-time employee is absent. Overtime is necessary to keep the trains running on time. Intermodal traffic goes up, but staff goes down. CN Rail expects the trains to go out on time, and in a safe condition, but staff is overworked, because there are not enough of them. In fact, one worker noticed that most of the rail cars that…

From their February 13 release: Amitai Sandy (29), graphic artist and publisher of Dimona Comix Publishing, from Tel-Aviv, Israel, has followed the unfolding of the “Muhammad cartoon-gate” events in amazement, until finally he came up with the right answer to all this insanity – and so he announced today the launch of a new anti-Semitic cartoons contest – this time drawn by Jews themselves! Mr. Sandy said, “We’ll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!” :said Sandy “No Iranian will beat us on our home turf!” Already organizers have received mixed responses to their contest and have published a number of them,…
