Tense panel discussion on Srebrenica held in Belgrade
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 A panel discussion titled “Truth about Srebrenica” held at the law school at the University of Belgrade yesterday almost turned into a physical fight between panel participants and several dozen protesters. The panel was organized by a nationalist student organization Nomokanon to mark what they consider, according to their promotional posters, “the anniversary of the liberation of Srebrenica.” According to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Bosnian Serb forces murdered more than 7,000 Bosniaks in 1995 in Srebrenica, during the war in Bosnia. General Radislav Krsti? was convicted for his involvement and sentenced to serve 46 years in prison. Two other suspects, Radovan Karadži? and Ratko Mladi? are still on the run. UN nuclear chief says negotiations with Iran at ‘dead end’
Friday, November 27, 2009 The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, said earlier on Thursday that the organization has reached a “dead end” in a probe into Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA’s board is meeting to consider a resolution condemning Iran’s nuclear program. File:Elbaradei.png In remarks to the IAEA’s board, ElBaradei expressed frustration over Iran’s failure to cooperate with the Vienna-based agency. ElBaradei leaves office in a few days, at the end of this November, and his remarks have grown sharply more critical of Iran in recent months. Swedish man uses webcam to broadcast suicide live on internet
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 A 21-year-old Swedish man killed himself and broadcast it over the internet via his webcam feed Monday, after posting to a message board that he had swallowed some painkillers and was going to hang himself. At 11:51 a.m. Central European Summer Time (0951 UTC), Marcus Jannes, a student from Järna, Stockholm, posted to the Mental Health Problems forum of Sweden’s Flashback message boards using the newly-registered username “LurifaxFlux”, stating that he was going to hang himself, adding that he had already swallowed 100mg of dexofen and 1500mg of paracetamol. He said that he had set up a webcam to record the event, and would post details later of a FTP server for people to watch. People responded to his post almost immediately. Man in Florida, USA, arrested for using 911 to complain about fast food
Tuesday, February 10, 2009 A man in Boynton Beach, Florida located in the United States, was arrested for misusing the city’s 911 emergency phone service. Jean Fortune, 66, called 911 to complain about a fast food order from Burger King he had not yet placed. On Monday Fortune called 911 to complain that the Burger King he was going to eat at did not sell lemonade. He also complained to 911 operators that the food he had yet to order, was going to take 15 minutes to complete. “You cannot dial 911 because you are unhappy with your burger, ok. Monday, May 21, 2012 The placement for first and second place at the 2012 Preakness Stakes could have been a replay of the Kentucky Derby earlier this month as I’ll Have Another came in first with Bodemeister behind in second. In this race, Creative Cause finished third. By winning the Kentucky Derby and the 137th Preakness Stakes, I’ll Have Another has a chance at winning the US Triple Crown of thoroughbred horse racing. The final race I’ll Have Another would have to win is the Belmont Stakes, which will be held on June 9. I’ll Have Another was not favored to win the Preakness Stakes and his odds were set at 3-1. At its head is the Australian Statistician. The current Statistician, Brian Pink, started in his position on March 5, 2007, following the retirement of predecessor Dennis Trewin. Wikinews recently caught up with Brian Pink to talk with him about his first year in the position, as well as his previous tenure as Government Statistician at Statistics New Zealand, and the state of mathematical education in Australia.
