You must be familiar with the conventional pitching washers these may be made more fun if you take it up as a DIY project and innovate upon it. Fun, they say, begins at home, so wait no more and embark upon this journey of sporty frolic.

As you must be aware, the game is played by two or four players with an objective to throw washers inside the holes. Unlike bean bag toss game, you may have to do things a little differently here. Keeping this in mind, first of all you need to think over whether you would like to dig holes in your backyard or build washer boxes in complete for the purpose. Doing the former is comparatively easier, but the problem is that you won t be able to move the holes as and when required, when in case of washer boxes, you can easily take them wherever you go. Once you have decided your move, begin with the execution part. Digging holes does not require any special equipment. If you are looking to make washer boxes, you need to stack up a few things first. Get four long boards and attach them with screws to make a square. Next, glue a piece of plywood at the bottom to complete the box. The boards should measure 14 x 16 with 2-4 inch thick.

The sides of the boxes must now be strengthened with glue. Now obtain 2 PVC pipes of 4-inch diameter each. Cut them and place them inside the box such that top of pipes is at par with the top of the box. Now fill soil in the box so that the pipes have support from all four sides. Place the boxes about 20 feet apart. This game is now as much as fun as the bean bag toss games.

If you would love to make pitching washers in your backyard itself, you can dig these holes at the right distance with pipes inserted in them and again the top of the pipe should be level with the ground. This way it would be convenient for play and won t obstruct your path while moving around. The width of pipes and washers used might differ in specifications but usually it is advisable to keep washers half-an-inch short of the width of pipes used for ease of play. Usually, 8 washers of 3 inches each is used in playing the game. You need not fret much over the size of box as well, even if it is slightly larger or smaller than the recommended sizes. Here is your home-made washer game which is fun enough to play anytime with friends, acquaintances or kids.

The next logical step would be to know properly the rules and regulations of the game, if not known already. We require 8 washers of equal sizes, 2 washer boxes or two holes in the ground for the game of pitching washers to begin. 4 washers are of one color and the other 4 of a different color to ensure that opposing teams washers are not mixed. The game may be played singly or in doubles. Only 2 people may utilize same washer box. In doubles play, two washer boxes or boards are needed they are placed at opposite ends. Each player or team throws 4 washers per round. A washer landing inside the cup earns 3 points. A washer that ends up atop the box but not into the cup is worth 1 point while a washer that does not touch the box is worth nothing.

In resemblance to the bean bag toss games, sometimes the players are required to throw washers alternately in different variations of the game. With the end of each round, the lower total is subtracted from the higher total which helps in calculating the actual lead of the winning team which is then take as the true score. The game is played in rounds till one of the teams or players score 21 points to win the game. So what are you waiting for, take time out to make the game for yourself which could be a pursuit fun enough for you and your kids.
