Tuesday, November 24, 2009 A policeman from the United Kingdom pleaded guilty to the murder of his fiancée, a female police constable. PC Martin Forshaw, 27, used a steel hammer to bludgeon WPC Claire Howarth, 31, before placing her in her car and staging an accident. Forshaw’s intent had been to convince police that Howarth had died behind the wheel, but officers became suspicious when they found her injuries were severe while the car was virtually undamaged. The trial had been due to start today before Manchester Crown Court but Forshaw confessed to the crime beforehand. The couple met in 2006 and the next year became engaged in Mexico. They were due to fly to St Lucia on the day of the killing but Forshaw had other plans; he, his lover, and their child were booked on a trip to Disneyland in Paris. An argument broke out and Forshaw used…

By Nitin Chhoda The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has made several modifications to existing physical therapy trends under its Vision 2020 strategy. For instance, one of the tenets of Vision 2020 is autonomous practice. The APTA Board has declared that autonomous practice is applicable to all physical therapists cutting across practice setting or business arrangement, creating opportunities for a new physical therapy trend to develop. Autonomous practice allows physical therapists to work independently, using professional judgment and adhering to the patient’s best interest. This is more of an opportunity than a physical therapy trend. The therapist has to take responsibility for the risks involved with such a profession and use proper physical therapy patient management. Physical therapists are also able to work alongside other health care providers to bring more quality care to their clients. All applicable legal and regulatory requirements in this context need to be followed. APTA has…

Friday, February 22, 2008 2008 Taipei International Book Exhibition, recently closed on Monday (Feb. 18), showed not only significances from visitors’ participation but also smooth traffic condition on roads near the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC). Since several MICEs (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) were held in the TWTC and Taipei International Convention Center, a major issue for the hall owner TAITRA and several show organizers and participants was traffic condition near the venues especially in a show related to information technology. If the venue was filled with overflowed visitors, roads near the venues would be gotten in a stuck especially when it rained. Even though the Xinyi Line of Taipei Metro is still under construction, and the 2008 Taipei Lantern Festival is still held in the Xinyi Shopping Area and Taipei City Hall Square, the traffic condition on Shi-fu Road, Song-chih Road, and Song-shou Road had some differences with…

Sunday, July 10, 2016 On Thursday, five police officers were killed and seven were injured after a sniper attacked a public protest march in downtown Dallas, Texas. Sources indicate at least three other people were taken into custody for questioning relating to the attack. The march was held to protest the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota during engagements with police officers. Police identified 25-year-old Micah Johnson as the suspect. Johnson had previously served in the US army, and police reported he said he wanted to exact revenge upon police officers after news of Sterling and Castile’s deaths. Ammunition and weapons were found inside Johnson’s home. Dallas Police reported the policemen were shot at from a height. Officials said two civilians were also injured in the attack. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 In Centerton, Indiana a man is alive thanks to his 2 dogs. Bill Burns was taking his nightly stroll with his dogs, Butch and Dusty, when he had a severe diabetic attack in a cornfield. His dogs immediately reacted. Morgan County sheriff’s Deputy, Steve Hoffman, was on a rural road just finishing with a traffic stop, when he noticed a light shining from a cornfield. “I noticed what appeared to be an illumination or a light that was flickering and facing my direction,” Hoffman said. When he got out of his car and walked to where he saw the light, he found Butch was holding a flashlight like he would a bone, in his mouth. Meanwhile, Dusty had stretched himself across Mr. Burns to try and keep him warm. Hoffman said he then noticed that Mr. Burns was wearing a diabetic medical bracelet and immediately took…

Monday, November 7, 2005 Jean-Jacques Le Chenadec has been reported as the first casualty of recent rioting in France. The 61-year old man was beaten by a hooded rioter last week and had been in a coma since the attack. The uprising was set off by the death of two teenagers who were allegedly chased by police and hid in an electric power station where they were electrocuted. The French riots have further intensified over the past few days and are now said to have spread to nearly every city in the country. The French prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, announced on Monday plans to allow the nation’s regions to impose curfews. Mr. de Villepin appeared the day before on television with an appeal to end the violence. The president, Jacques Chirac, ended his silence on the rioting on Saturday, when he spoke to the press. “Those who want to…
